Celebrate Easter and Spring Break on Hilton Head Island

Vicki Shivers - Thursday, March 26, 2015

We’ll be having a “Hopping Good Time” on Hilton Head Island in April as we enjoy the celebration of Easter with our family fun filled Easter events and Island activities. This year Easter falls on April 5th, but did you ever wonder why we sometimes celebrate Easter in March and yet in other months it can be as late as the end of April?

The fact is, the day and date of Easter does change each year and it is all dependent on the date that we see The Paschal Full Moon, the first Ecclesiastical Full Moon date after March 20, which happened to be the vernal equinox date in 325 AD. Because of this, Easter is always celebrated on the Sunday immediately following the Paschal Full Moon.

The Paschal Full Moon can vary as much as two days from the date of the actual full moon, with dates ranging from March 21 to April 18. As a result, Easter dates can range from March 22 through April 25 and is always celebrated on the Sunday immediately following the Paschal Full Moon.

Many people take advantage of the Easter holidays for planning a family getaway to warmer climates, and Hilton Head Island makes the perfect destination with our many holiday events. If you are planning to visit the Island during the Easter holiday, you should definitely book your rental villa, home or hotel early to ensure you get your choice of accommodations for your visit. Holidays can book quite quickly on the Island and often sell out during these peak seasons, but with a little planning, you can still get a great deal on very nice accommodations!

From our Easter Sunday church services to our family fun filled Easter “Eggstravaganza”, a trip to Hilton Head will make your Easter holiday one to remember for years to come. The Island has many places of worship to attend on Easter Sunday, and many include Sunrise Services. All of our churches are open to visitors of the Island and we welcome your family to join us. Children will especially enjoy The Annual Easter “Eggstravaganza”, held at Shelter Cove Park. Festivities include an Easter Egg Hunt, blowup rides, music, face painting, and more!

We wish your family a wonderful Easter holiday and safe travels!
