No matter what time of year you decide to visit Hilton Head, there's always something fun happening on the Island!
Guests from all over the world visit Hilton Head Island each year to enjoy the beautiful South Carolina Lowcountry scenery, the Island's pristine local beaches, and attend world class sporting events. Although most visitors make plans to vacation in Hilton Head during the summer months, The Island’s sub-tropical climate makes it the perfect year round vacation destination and hot spot, offering around 230 sunny days each year and very mild winters. Not only is the weather beautiful all year long; Hilton Head has many planned activities, events and celebrations scheduled throughout the year for your enjoyment.
Spring / Leisure Season (March - May)
One of the most beautiful times of the year to vacation on Hilton Head Island is in the spring, also known as Leisure Season on the Island. The Lowcountry flowers and trees are beginning to bloom and the Island is painted with the blossoming pink and white azaleas. March through May offers near perfect weather with average daytime temperatures around 72 degrees and a nightly low temperature of around 60 degrees.
The warm weather is the perfect setting for teeing up at one of the Island’s word class golf courses, a tennis match at one of our racquet clubs, or exploring beautiful and historic SC Coast. The Island hosts a variety of exciting events and activities during the Spring months including the Hilton Head Island Wine and Food Festival, the Annual St. Patrick's Day Parade and celebration, The Bravo Arts and cultural Festival, Wing Fest, HarbourFest,the Annual Rib Burn-Off, the Seafood Fest, Easter "Eggstravaganza," and the Memorial Day Celebration. Spring is also a very exciting time for Hilton Head, as we host the PGA’s Annual Heritage Golf Tournament. Each April, thousands of people make their way to Hilton Head Island, to be a part of South Carolina’s only PGA event. Making its home at Harbour Town Golf Links in The Sea Pines Resort for more than 40 years, The Heritage is recognized as one of the most distinguished and premier golf tournaments in the country. The Hilton Head area also hosts the U.S.Open Qualifier Golf Tournament each May.
Summer / Vacation Season (June - August)
There's nothing quite like spending a summer day on beautiful Hilton Head Island! Summertime is always so much fun on the Island and there are so many “fun in the sun” activities to choose from, you may have a hard time deciding exactly what to do each day! The summer months in Hilton Head, from June through August, bring hot, sunny, perfect beach weather days with temperatures averaging around 89 degrees and a balmy 72 in the evening. The Island has a fairly humid climate and with the cool ocean breezes, even the hot days are very enjoyable.
One of the best things about a summer vacation on Hilton Head is that you can do as much or as little as you want to during your visit to the Island. For those seeking adventure, take a dolphin cruise, explore our wildlife refuge and hiking trails, go parasailing, or visit nearby Daufuskie Island. Sports lovers will enjoy our championship golf courses, award winning racquet clubs and a friendly game of beach volleyball behind the "Tiki Hut" on South Forest Beach. When you’re ready to relax, you can spend the day lounging at an oceanfront pool or splashing in the calm waters of our pristine sandy beaches! The opportunities and fun never ends! Summer is also a great time to take part in one of our many Island events and festivals. Popular summer festivities include HarbourFest, which features live entertainment seven nights a week, plus food, arts and crafts, fireworks and other activities, The July 4th Independence Day Celebration, Shannon Tanner’s Interactive Family Friendly Shows every night at Shelter Cove Harbour, The Hilton Head Art Festival, The Summer Jams at Shelter Cove Park, and The Summer Exploration Series at the Coastal Discovery Museum. Summertime also means that all of our waterfront restaurants and beach beach bars are open with nightly live entertainment and excellent local seafood.
Fall / Relaxation Season (September - October)
With school back in session and summer vacation s coming to an end, now is the time to plan your escape and quietly relax on the Carolina Coast. Enjoy the slower pace and laid back Island lifestyle of Hilton Head Island in the fall. With near perfect weather, daytime highs of 72 degrees and evenings around 58, and plenty of activities and opportunities to soak up our local culture, fall is the perfect time of the year for getting away from it all and spending your days golfing, walking along an uncrowded beach, enjoying a massage at a local spa and exploring the sights on the Island… and simply let your cares slip away as you relax on South Carolina’s most beautiful Island.
Hilton Head Island is a popular year round vacation destination and a perfect escape from the cold weather and gray skies that this time of year brings to a lot of areas of the U.S. Leave your coats and mittens at home and plan a fall vacation in Hilton Head and soak up some Southern sunshine…even in October! In fact, some of the Island’s most popular events are held in the fall each year. September is the official start to oyster season and the Island has numerous events and festivities to salute our bounty of fresh local seafood. Come celebrate at the Bluffton Arts and Seafood Festival, and The Salty Dog Café’s Shrimp Fest and Annual Oyster Roast. Also popular in the fall on Hilton Head are the Annual Hilton Head Celebrity Golf Tournament, where local and national celebrities play golf - all in the name of charity, the Cajun Festival, the Hilton Head Concours d'Elegance & Motoring Festival, and the Hilton Head Island Bridge Run.
Winter / Holiday Season (November - February)
Our sub-tropical climate on Hilton Head Island allows us to enjoy many outdoor activities during the winter months. Our winter weather and climate is generally fairly mild, with daytime temperatures around 55 degrees and even in the chilliest months, the night time lows only dip to around 40. Spend the winter months in golf shirts and flip flops as you relax and take in the amazing surroundings of the S.C. Lowcountry. Enjoy a game of tennis at our championship racquet clubs, explore the historic buildings, sites and learn the history of the Island, dine at fine restaurants, including Food Network Chef Robert Irvine’s local restaurant, “eat!” or take a day trip to beautiful Daufuskie Island, Charleston, SC or Savannah, GA.
The Holidays are a wonderful time to enjoy the Island and provides the perfect setting to relax and have fun with your family and friends. Spend your Thanksgiving holiday on Hilton Head Island and enjoy all of the things the Islanders are so thankful for on our tiny piece of paradise. Join us for the Annual Community Thanksgiving Day Dinner at Hudson’s Seafood Restaurant and the Annual Turkey Trot! Also enjoy an Island Christmas with "snowmen" made of sand and palmetto trees decorated with lights. A must see for the Holiday Season on Hilton Head is the Island's favorite holiday tradition, the Dove Street Festival of Lights!
